The Vogue Singapore x BMW Innovation Prize 2018

singapore prize

This year’s Vogue Singapore x BMW Innovation Prize winner will receive a monetary award, media coverage on Vogue Singapore, direct feedback from global leaders in their field, introductions to potential investors for funding opportunities and an invitation to Earthshot Week from Monday 6 November through Friday 11 November; with events all across Singapore designed to accelerate solutions and put forth tangible actions to restore our planet.

This prize is generously supported by Temasek Trust, investment company Temasek, decarbonisation investment platform GenZero, non-profit environmental organisation Conservation International and Standard Chartered Bank. The aim is to tackle climate anxiety felt by young people which can lead them to feel defeated and powerless about taking any meaningful steps on this issue. Furthermore, raising awareness around it as well as encouraging the public to support winners’ projects will also play a part in its success.

Since 2010, the Singapore Prize has honoured achievements in science, arts and sports; its inaugural awards ceremony was hosted at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. For 2018, however, they introduced an Environment Category which honors environmental initiatives with positive impacts on local communities; winning this category could win up to $200,000 and five runners-up each receive $5,000 as cash prizes.

This year’s Singapore Literature Prize (formerly National Book Award), has received more entries than ever before in its history. A total of 235 submissions were received this year compared to 182 last year and 57 in 2012. Fiction submissions made up most of those submitted this time around; winners will be announced on 22 March evening and receive an exquisite trophy designed by artist Leopold Zhu in addition to receiving a citation.

This year’s ceremony will include not only main prizes but also a Readers’ Choice category. Ali bin Salim, Daryl Qilin Yam, Pan Zheng Lei (Pan Cheng Lui), and rma cureess are each shortlisted authors and will each receive a cash prize of $1,000 and book-purchase voucher worth $50; click here for full list.

The Vogue Singapore x BMW Innovation Prize is the second award established by the organizers of Singapore Fashion Week. Last year, this accolade went to bioengineer Christopher Browne who developed a material suitable for green hydrogen energy production and semiconductor manufacturing. The winning team will receive not only an $15,000 cash prize but also profile coverage on Vogue Singapore magazine as well as introductions to potential funders from Susie Lau, Vogue’s Creative Director.
