The SDY Prize

sdy prize

The SDY Prize recognizes authors for outstanding scholarly works on the history of technology. Winners receive cash and publication rights. Furthermore, their work may also be presented at an academic conference; this provides great recognition that may assist with employment prospects in the future. Presented annually and named in honour of Sydney businessman John SDY; it has become one of the world’s premier academic prizes.

To be eligible for the S. D. Young Prize, candidates must present a scholarly work published within three years prior to being awarded. It can be in any language and be either a book or essay; its significance must extend to teaching, research and general interest on technology’s history while having broad public appeal.

Students wishing to participate in the S. D. Young Prize must register online by February 15, each year, and submit an essay of no more than 10 pages detailing its significance to technology history and two scholars that would serve as referees for it. Submissions are evaluated by an independent panel.
