The HK Prize and BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE

The Hong Kong Prize is an annual award designed to recognize outstanding young people who have made outstanding contributions in arts, culture and society. Winners receive recognition and support for their efforts while increasing international visibility through top-tier media coverage – all while becoming part of a global network of creative talent and influencers.

This award, approved and presented by a consortium of organizations in Hong Kong, is open to anyone aged 18 or under enrolled at any school, university or non-governmental organisation in Hong Kong. Applicants are invited to come up with creative ideas on Hong Kong’s role in global development; those chosen as winners will get an opportunity to meet key international development players.

Chinese-language film that explores refugees has won top honours at this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards shortlist, earning rave reviews from industry veterans. Directed by Sammo Hung, the movie follows an aspiring sex worker caught between warring countries – written and directed by Hung – with actors Zhao Yihuan, Cheng Siwei and Tang Wei.

US lawmakers have nominated five Hongkongers for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, calling them global inspirations in the face of Beijing’s crackdown. Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong have been pushing for democracy as Chinese authorities tighten their grip on freedom of speech and expression in Hong Kong.

Olympic gold medalist Cheung Tian-wai will become the inaugural recipient since its establishment in 2014. Lam Tai Fai College presented this bonus, part of an incentive scheme which has also seen athletes from Hong Kong win other prestigious honors this year.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is a merit-based grant administered by Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation with support from Bank of China (Hong Kong). The prize’s charter aims to ensure scientific management as well as objectivity and fairness throughout its review process; with no more than one Grand Award awarded per term across six award fields.

From now until November 4, the 2024 Future Science Prize Exhibition will be taking place at Hong Kong Science Museum, featuring exhibits on past winners of this prize and interactive exhibits showcasing their research. Visitors will learn about each field’s importance as well as the societal impact of technological breakthroughs in each scientific breakthrough.
