What is Data Hk?

Data hk is information gathered for reference or analysis; it may be numerical, textual, or both. Data collection typically serves to enable decision-making or action of some sort; some examples include taking an electricity meter reading, counting customers who visit retail stores, or analyzing financial data to understand trends.

Hong Kong adheres to internationally accepted data privacy regulations, with oversight provided by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD). Under PCPD regulation, businesses processing personal information in or from Hong Kong must abide by six data protection principles and conduct an impact analysis before sending their personal data out of Hong Kong.

Companies conducting an impact analysis must carefully consider their intended purpose and how data will be utilized, in order to ascertain its suitability for transfer. They should also examine both jurisdiction’s privacy environments (laws and regulations) in addition to potential risks to individuals as well as adverse repercussions for reputations or business operations.

An effective data governance program requires an articulated vision and business case that align with an organization’s objectives. A strong vision provides direction while an articulate business case identifies specific opportunities. Utilizing both of these elements helps create an inclusive roadmap to guide the implementation of a governance framework and drive return on investment (ROI). Additionally, the vision will provide the framework for policies to be implemented across an organization to support the goals of a governance program. Finally, an experienced team must be assembled in order to implement and steward this plan; typically this entails recruiting members from IT, business and data communities – in larger organizations this team could include members who will support, sponsor, steward and operationalize this framework.
