The Hongkong Prize and the HK Science and Technology Innovation Prize

The Hongkong Prize is an independent merit-based award that recognizes scientific research with significant social benefits. Free of sponsorship and personal interests, its selection panel consists of experts in their respective fields. Previous recipients have included journalists who expose human rights abuses; activists fighting for democracy within their countries; social justice workers supporting marginalized communities.

This prize is open to residents of Southeast Asia, mainland China and beyond, including residents of Hong Kong. Additionally to receiving monetary awards, winning researchers will experience Hong Kong for themselves while immersing themselves in its culture. Winners in each category will be selected via three waves starting March 1; Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese and international residents. Lifetime Achievement and Early Career Contribution awards applicants should submit research that has resulted in major breakthroughs with far-reaching effects, regardless of race, nationality, gender or religious affiliation. Preferably this research should have taken place primarily within Hong Kong, Mainland China or Macau and significantly enhanced the city’s technological and innovative environment.

Prize recipients will each be presented with cash awards of US$100,000 (for lifetime achievement) and US$50,000 (for early career contribution), and will have the chance to conduct research at one or more Hong Kong universities or laboratories for two weeks; during which they may meet leading scientists in their area of expertise while increasing global visibility.

This year marks the second annual HK Science and Technology Innovation Prize award by Bank of China Hong Kong Branch. The prize recognizes outstanding scientific researchers in fields including artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health sciences, new materials/energy development/use/advanced manufacturing technologies/processes etc. These finalists will be recognized at an award ceremony to take place this May at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

HK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is supported by the HKSAR Government, in cooperation with Hong Kong Federation of Industry Associations, Hong Kong Scientists Union, and The HK Research Fund. The Hong Kong Medical Excellence Prize recognizes extraordinary medical research that is of significant clinical relevance. If you would like your paper considered, submit it before the submission deadline at HKJO; original articles (such as prospective or retrospective clinical studies, observational studies, epidemiological studies, meta-analyses or reviews articles )are eligible; however case reports and letters to editors do not qualify.
