Public swimming pools in Hong Kong are administered by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), consisting of 44 public swimming pools spread across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Recently the department has come under pressure to reduce costs and has reduced lifeguard staff numbers on duty resulting in some going on strike.
Since 2004, LCSD has reduced their pool lifeguard workforce from around 2,400 to 1,580, leading to severe strain on those remaining and several strikes over time. Unfortunately, things do not look likely to improve anytime soon as plans exist to close some popular and high traffic swimming pools by the LCSD.

Situated near Exhibition Centre station on Sha Tin to Central Link, entry is free – however food or drinks consumed will incur costs; pool hours of operation run Monday-Thursday 7am-8pm and weekends 7am-6pm.
