This year’s BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023 (BOC STIP) attracted record numbers of applications from researchers in all fields. Renowned scholars and experts from China as well as overseas were invited to select outstanding research teams or individuals for their impressive scientific research achievements, application of findings into society benefits, or creative transformation of findings into tangible projects or products that benefit society in some way. The Prize was intended to inspire academic researchers in Hong Kong to keep engaging in innovative pursuits that advance society worldwide while building careers here at home while making contributions back at home while simultaneously serving their nation and contributing towards global efforts that contribute both locally as well as globally.
The Good Citizen Award Scheme was introduced in 1973 to recognize members of the public who have rendered significant assistance to police in preventing, detecting, or apprehending crimes. Its aim was also to raise awareness about crime among communities and encourage reporting criminal acts directly to law enforcement officials. As a result, reward money for this award has reached more than HK$100 million; and an additional scheme introduced in 2024 offers additional cash rewards to those who helped arrest or convict criminals; this new scheme has garnered strong public approval.
